There can be no doubt that social media is dictating a lot of marketing strategies these days as it is continually changing the way that potential customers consume information. The most successful businesses are consistently posting relevant content through multiple, but targeted, social media channels. As part of this, visual content, such as videos is more likely to get shared than all-text content.

Video is now an increasingly important part of the promotional artillery with SMEs and large organisations considering it the most engaging communication channel for their audiences.

So, my question to you is, are making the most of your video assets across social media? If not, then you need to be considering your options going forward.

Here’s the first three in our top ten reasons series why you need video.

  1. Video is your main sales tool

The effectiveness of video is not surprising. Most information transmitted to our brain is visual, they say a picture speaks a thousand words, so how many words does a video portray? Imagine how using videos in your marketing, posts and website can improve that conversation you have with the potential client, how easier will it be when they know what you do. No matter which social medium you are posting through, you should always have a goal for your video. Also, you must include, without negotiation, a call to action, the next step. It could be your website, generate a phone call or how to purchase, depending on your product. Remember Videos can either begin the process towards making you regular money.

  1. Video engages people

Video must include a hook, something that is easy to consume. If you are honest, we will all admit that we’re guilty of scrolling through social media feeds, but we only engage with certain content. However, Video allows you to be concise and capture viewers’ interest in the first few seconds, they say you have 3-5 seconds to keep people watching. General marketing rules also are that the length of great videos are 3-5 minutes, meaning the success of your video is in the ability to condense information down into short digestible snippets of content that is long enough to maintain viewers’ attention but short enough to leave them wanting more. Also, most the time, a short, one minute video, which is ideal for many other social media platforms, is also achievable from content gathered.

  1. Videos bring communities to share

More social media users say they would share a video with their friends if it was entertaining or relevant. Meaning it is more important to create fun entertaining videos that actually do encourage social shares. Shares across social media platforms from different friends, family members and supporters or followers can increase traffic to your site immensely, and you can create referrals for your business.
